Questions for the Web Designer

I’ve always had a hard time trying to find a color scheme for a website. I find that Colourlovers is a great site to go to and I keep a copy of Jim Krause’s Color Index handy, as well. However, with all the choices I have in front of me, I still can’t find a color scheme I like. If I’m using an image for a layout, I usually try to use the colors found in that image. I think it kind of brings harmony if I do that.

Anyway, on to my questions for the web designers out there:

  1. Where do you go to find color inspiration?
  2. Do you ever have a mood in mind when choosing colors?
  3. What color have you found you use the most?
  4. What color schemes do you think that web designers should stay away from?

I don’t know if those are good questions to ask but I think it’ll get the ball rolling. So, answer away!

Changes

So, I decided to change a few things on this website but they aren’t big changes. It’s obvious what they are. When I have the time, though, I’m going to make a new theme that doesn’t suck so much or isn’t so boring (I’ve thrown away the new theme I was working on). For now, I’m not touching this theme anymore (hopefully).

Portrait Update

With what little time I have, I decided to finish the digital portrait of a woman first. Since my original post, I fixed the ear as well as cleaned up a couple areas on the face. I’m stuck on the eyes right now and the hair needs to be done. Since I can’t seem to get her eye right, I’m going to have to read a couple tutorials on eyes. Tips from me readers wouldn’t hurt as well. :-)

So, here’s what I have so far:
Portrait of a Woman Update

When this is finished, I’ll begin work on a new Shizucor layout featuring this portrait. Because of work and school, this new design will not be released anytime soon. Plus, I’m going to take a lot of time and thought into this new one. I’ll be doing some serious experimenting and doing things I’ve never done before. All my previous designs were done in a hurry but this one will not. Wish me luck. When I’m done with the new look, I’ll have to force myself not to make another one in 2 months. LOL

Hope everyone had a great summer! School is about to start and I’m actually quite excited about it. How about you?

Yes! I’d like to introduce Male Moda which was designed by my friend Dan and coded by me. It’s a male fashion/personal blog of Dan’s and so far, he’s been very busy posting. Check him out!

Works in Progress

I have 3 different pieces that I’ve been working on since March I believe. I would have finished these pieces by now but I’ve been so busy with work at the pharmacy as well as doing part-time freelancing. Recently I’ve tried to update each piece but not to near completion.

Below is what I have so far of each piece:

Cirque Portrait

This was to be the second pixel piece that I’d showcase at Pixeljoint but as you can see, it is far from finished. It’s the most complete of the three so I’ll have to dedicate some more time to this one. With the help of an old self-portrait and a mirror, I was able to get proportions right.

Contortionist

I wanted to continue the cirque motif so I thought I’d pixel a contortionist. I drew from a photo, scanned the drawing, and traced it. I shall include the original picture once I complete it.

Portrait

When I saw some examples of digital painting, I decided that I should give digital painting a try. However, I haven’t painted a portrait in a loooong time so I’m basically a newbie in both actual media and digital media. I used a photo of Natalie Portman in a cover of Vogue but I made changes here and there. You can see the drawing as well as my little mistake with the ear. Yes, the ear was a little high. :-)
Portrait of a woman

There you have it! I hope to finish all of these by my birthday, which is October 20th.

So, is there anything in your backburner waiting to be accomplished?
