Questions for the Web Designer
I’ve always had a hard time trying to find a color scheme for a website. I find that Colourlovers is a great site to go to and I keep a copy of Jim Krause’s Color Index handy, as well. However, with all the choices I have in front of me, I still can’t find a color scheme I like. If I’m using an image for a layout, I usually try to use the colors found in that image. I think it kind of brings harmony if I do that.
Anyway, on to my questions for the web designers out there:
- Where do you go to find color inspiration?
- Do you ever have a mood in mind when choosing colors?
- What color have you found you use the most?
- What color schemes do you think that web designers should stay away from?
I don’t know if those are good questions to ask but I think it’ll get the ball rolling. So, answer away!

1. Everywhere. Once I got the idea for my color scheme from a shampoo bottle. Usually I do like you too though and take the colors from my image.
2. I don’t think so.
3. Grey.
4. Just strong colors that will hurt peoples eyes.

1. Everywhere, it just pops out to me, especially at work (art gallery) I see art all the time and colours just stand out, especially fashion when I see what colour combos people wear it gets in my head and I start thinking about more combos.
2. Hm not really..
3. I use too much pink, and too much turquoise in all my previous layouts. The one I have now is green which I like but not in huge amoounts, and red which I absolutely hate that colour. My current layout pushed a lot of boundaries for me in terms of colour but it ended up being something I like. But I will still always hate the colour red, and I still get sick from the amount of green I have used.
4. In my opinion, anything that looks tacky. Like I hate seeing red and green together cos it looks so christmasy but some can oull it off and I like to think I did haha. I also hate colours that clash, but then some (silencios.org) have soo many colours yet it all ties in and looks wonderful.
